A Building That No One Has Lived In For 100 Years. What Is Left In The Building? Who Used To Live There?
While playing cricket with my friends one day, I hit the ball high, and it went over a wall into a compound. I climbed the rough wall and jumped down. I was surprised to see an old, scary-looking house in front of me.
The ball was just in the yard, and I picked it up, and walked toward the house. As I walked towards the house, excited and scared, I heard ‘thuds’ behind me, and saw that my friends had joined me.
We saw a rusty lock on a huge wooden door, no matter what we did, it didn’t break. So we walked around the house, and saw a big window with glass panes. We tried to open it and to our luck, the hinge broke, and it opened, with a groan. We quickly climbed in. Inside it was dark, and we opened a few more windows, and some light streamed in.
We spent the next hour exploring the house. We saw an old calendar in what must have been the dining room, and it was from the year 1921. Next to it was a clock whose pendulum had not swung for years. We were surprised to see the table laid out. It seemed like the family who stayed there so many years ago were about to have a meal.
We moved to the right, into what seemed to be the kitchen, and there were some pots on the stove; the entire place was covered with dust and cobwebs. We moved in the opposite direction, and saw a staircase, with a candle stand on the landing.
We could see the walls were of black stone, and there was beautiful carved furniture – the sofas, beds, tables; none of it was damaged after all these years.
When we reached upstairs, we saw three bedrooms – the bedsheets were torn, and curtains too. The cupboards were open, and a few raggedy clothes were inside. The bathrooms had brass taps, greenish coloured, and no water in them. There was a crib in one of the bedrooms, and some baby clothes in it. Judging from the clothes and the house, my friends and I decided that it must have belonged to some British people – who probably had left this place in a hurry, for some reason. It was probably a happy and busy place at one time, but is sad and abandoned now.
As we walked back to our game, we couldn’t help feeling a little sad ourselves.
