Creative writing is an important part of learning for students. Creative writing helps children build on their imagination and use their creativity to express their thoughts and learnings. One positive aspect of creative writing is that it helps students think freely and allows them to explore writing outside the technical and formal styles.
Writing Prompts
Writing prompts help children in thinking creatively. They offer a stepping stone for students to think and write with their own personal touch. Writing prompts help children to write by either sticking to the prompt or by letting them wander by providing a starting point for their thought process. Here’s one writing prompt that you can use in order to help students take their first step into creative writing:
When he woke up that morning, Raj didn’t know that he would be waking up with a superpower—the power of strength. All his life, he had waited for this moment. The nights spent hiding from his parents and reading comic books finally felt worth it. He knew what he had to do: save the world from the bad guys with his super strength.
But little did Raj know that this was easier than it seemed. The first time he tried to save a kid from being hit by a car, the kid was thrown to one side of the road and the car was thrown to the other side. People looked at him not with gratitude but with anger. The kid did not end up getting seriously hurt, and Raj was thankful for that.
The next time the opportunity came for him to stop a thief from stealing a woman’s purse, he succeeded in doing it, but he did not know his own strength and ended up grabbing the thief too tightly and fracturing his arm. Raj did not know what to do. The comic books made it look way easier than it actually was. He broke things a lot and hurt people without meaning to. He had too much power.
All intentions of saving the world were crashing down around him. He thought he was prepared for this but it turns out he wasn’t. He decided he couldn’t continue going out saving the world like this; he needed training. That’s how Raj decided on his first mission—find a superhero trainer and learn how to control his powers enough to save the world. But there was one problem. There weren’t many superhero trainers available because there weren’t many superheroes existing in his world. He had to find one soon. Where could he find one though? And that’s how Raj found himself on the Internet, looking up “Superhero trainers around me,” with zero hopes of finding an answer. But wait, he saw a name pop out. It was familiar, and he couldn’t believe it.
