Why Is Sex Education Important?

Linked table of contents:

Introduction

The architecture of the reproductive organs, sexually transmitted illnesses, and other subjects may be covered in a sex education course. The absence of sex education causes people to be unaware of birth control pills, condoms, and other choices, which results in undesired pregnancies and abortions. When children hit puberty, it is essential that they get sex education.

Because of India's cultural and moral norms, there is a dearth of sex education in the country. Teachers and parents are hesitant to talk about sex in front of children. Adults are unable to communicate their sexual concerns with others because of a lack of sex communication. The first step toward solving these issues is to bring up the topic in schools and at home as a subject of conversation.

Instead of being a controversial subject, sexual encounters should be commonplace, and talks about it should not be avoided. In India, the general public believes that there are a number of myths about sex education, which need to be dispelled.

Here are some of those myths:

  • It Encourages Sexual Urges In Teens: These lectures are not intended to encourage young people to participate in sexual activity. Through good sex education, teens are educated about the psychological, social, and biological components of living a long and healthy sexual life, among other things. Instruct them about topics such as the effects of aging, sexually transmitted illnesses, the use of birth control techniques, and the prevention of AIDS and HIV, which will come in handy when they become adults.

  • It Is Not For Men And Boys: According to a study on sexually assaulted children, 57.3 percent of those surveyed were male. A representative sample of adult Indian men was obtained, where 18 percent of those who took part in the poll responded. In India, males account for more than 61 percent of all HIV/AIDS cases. Therefore, sex education is for everyone, despite gender.

  • Banning Sex Education Is Fine: Children are naturally fascinated by the subject of sex. It is hard for parents and educators to teach them about their intrinsic need for sexual activity. Finding information about sex in unconventional places such as their friends' homes, movies, and the Internet is what teens resort to if they are not appropriately educated on sex. Pornography is the most common medium for teenagers to learn about sex. Such websites tend to disseminate incorrect information and stir rumors about the issues they cover. Therefore, banning sex education can never be the answer.

Why Is Sex Education Important?

In Indian culture, it is forbidden to talk about sex in public since it is still considered taboo. Teachers of sex education must be proactive and upbeat in their approach.

It is impossible to overestimate the significance of sex education in India, the world's second-largest nation by population. Discussions on human reproductive organs are often ignored by the academics at our institutions. Students are enthralled by this subject since they aren't aware of their intrinsic demand for this information. The human reproductive system is introduced to pupils in the eighth grade. But instructors refuse to teach this chapter since it is not included in the curriculum.

However, the problems in sex education have recently started being addressed by India's policymakers. The state of Haryana places a high priority on health and women's development, and taboo subject such as sex education is being explored for inclusion in the state's school curriculum.

Students will learn to view sex as a normal activity if they are exposed to sex education classes from kindergarten through the 12th grade. It is a real issue that adolescent pregnancy is increasing; thus, eliminating the stigma associated with sexuality is the primary goal of this campaign. This will be implemented in public schools initially, with community health centers following suit. There is no question that the state of Haryana has taken a significant step forward.

Take Away

Schools should be required to teach students about sexuality. It will educate teens on topics such as pregnancy, consent, sexual assault, and intimate relationships. Religion and culture are not influenced by scientific studies in any way. Everyone should be required to get sex education so that they better comprehend the nature of sexual behavior. When there is an open conversation about sex, it makes it less daunting for children to speak about their sexual concerns. It is important that our teachers and parents address all queries they may have regarding their well-being as soon as possible.
