Speech on the enchanting power of books: Embrace knowledge, wisdom, and imagination!
"I do believe something magical can happen when you read a good book." - JK Rowling.
Books are the source of two very important things in life - knowledge and wisdom. On one hand, fictional books make the author's imagination come to life, and on the other, non-fictional books let us gain information on different aspects of life. And with the advancement of the digital era, we now have eBooks, too, making the availability hassle-free.
So, why should one start reading books? There are innumerable benefits associated with reading books. To read a book, one has to engage their mind and imagination fully. Since our focus is entirely on the book we are reading, it can help us calm down and reduce stress. Books also help us stay informed about recent happenings and trends across the world and expose us to different cultures and traditions. The more books we read, the better our vocabulary gets as we come across a horde of new words while reading and adopt them willy-nilly. We also get to understand how different words are used in a sentence, and it makes it easier to remember their usage.
I like to read books because books are fascinating. I usually read after I come back from school and during weekends. My favourite book is Malgudi Days by RK Narayan, and I have read it thrice already. It is a collection of short stories. I like this book because of the sweet nostalgia it has and how it takes me on a walk through the life of people and culture decades back. All the short stories are funny and witty. It also emphasises the importance of true friends and parents in everyone's life. Though the stories are set in an era gone by, there are many relatable situations we would have experienced in our day-to-day lives.
I believe that everyone should read at least a few pages every day to cultivate a reading habit. Start your reading habit by asking your parents to read a book. Through this, you can clarify with your parents if you have any doubts. You can also start reading with your friends. This will become a fun activity. You can also enact the characters from the stories to make the activity even more enjoyable. So let us all start reading and stay informed. Happy reading, everyone!
