Should libraries be replaced with unlimited access to e-books?

Linked table of contents:

Introduction

Paper books and e-books provide different experiences when it comes to reading. E-books have completely revolutionized the way we read books. Now, you can read a book anywhere and anytime without carrying extra luggage. It saves you a lot of money and space as well as it is easier to carry a tab rather than four or five books.

E-books are amazing, and there are no second thoughts about them, but should they replace the books in libraries?

E-Books Or Books?

E-books have made it so easier to access any book at any time. Those times had gone when people used to wait for hours in libraries or wait for months to get a copy of their favorite book series. The best part about e-books is that sometimes you can get them for free, and even the subscriptions are cheaper than the paper book!!

Imagine reading your favorite book at a cheaper rate or better, for free! However, is it a boon for everyone? Some people still read books, and they get immense pleasure in reading through a book rather than on a screen. They get pleasure in turning those pages and placing those beautiful bookmarks between the pages, or just that smell of a new book.

Everyone has different perspectives and choices. Libraries, which are a haven for readers, are filled with the smell of new and old books. It is something that can not be replaced with an e-book.

A Library Is Not Just A Collection Of Books, But It’s A Collection Of Memories

A library is a place where you can read and create memories. Many people leave notes in the books for the next reader, and sometimes, this exchange of notes is informative, and enriching, and helps build lasting friendships based on similar intellectual interests.

Sharing notes through e-books on Ipads and tablets is not possible similarly, making e-books devoid of human touch. The culture of borrowing books at a cheaper rate and the feeling of borrowing the book from the library adds a special touch to your reading experience. E-books are great as they can provide you with many books with just one click, but they cannot replace the magic of libraries.

Final Words

Libraries hold cultural values and are something that we would like to pass on to the next generation. Some people prefer libraries over e-books, as it gives them the appropriate vibe for their reading. On the other hand, e-books are a cheaper and smarter way of accessing books online. It is helpful for students, as it allows them to access every book at cheaper rates or for free. However, we can never really tell which one is better, between an e-book and a library, as everyone has their preferences.
