Dad vs. Mom: Exploring the Fun Factor in Parenting!

Linked table of contents

Have you ever wondered why most kids have more fun with their dads than with their moms? Here is an article discussing the reasons why kids enjoy their dad's company more than their moms.

Ask any kid who they have more fun with - their mom or their dad and the typical answer will probably be that most kids enjoy their dad's company more than their moms. Though both parents play their part in parenting and looking after their kids, kids still find their dads to be more fun than their moms.

Why so? It is probably because of the differences in their roles and the tasks they are involved in, as parents. Generally, moms bear the responsibility of practising and teaching good habits to their children, for which they often have to be the stricter parent. Dads, on the other hand, are more lenient and carefree when it comes to parenting. So, let's look at some of the reasons why dads win when it comes to having fun with kids.

Reasons Why Dads Are More Fun Than Moms

  1. Dads love to laugh and crack silly jokes

Fathers usually love to crack jokes and giggle at every funny face the kids make. While moms are also funny and love to share a laugh, they're often busy with household chores, grocery shopping, etc., and therefore have less time to pause and enjoy the moment. As dads are often present to share a hearty laugh at the silliest of jokes, they are considered more fun than moms.

  1. Dads are more involved in rough and tumble play

While moms love to spend a reasonable amount of time playing with their kids, their activities are usually simple, like board games, puzzles, crafts, and other educational games. Though kids enjoy their playtime with moms, they have more fun playing with their dads. This is because, just like kids, dads love rough play too. For them, throwing kids up in the air, tumbling down the mattress, and pillow fighting is just as fun as it is for kids.

  1. Dads enjoy doing leisure activities with kids

As the responsibility of doing everyday tasks like cooking for the family, doing dishes, and checking homework are on mom, she has little time to engage in leisure activities with the kids. However, when dads have their turn to look after the kids, they often engage the kids in leisure activities like watching television, going out to buy a toy, or taking the kids to their favorite park. As moms are in charge of checking on things like screen time, park time, etc., it ultimately makes dads the cool parent.

  1. Dads tend to behave like kids themselves

Yes, it's true! Dads love to behave like kids when they are with their kids. They act more like a friend than a caregiver. This attribute helps dads mingle well with the child and enjoy the activities together. As playing with dads is similar to playing with friends, kids find their fathers to be more fun than their moms.

  1. Dads don't mind eating junk food

Dads are a bit relaxed when it comes to food. They don't mind if meal times change slightly, and are also not very particular about what kids eat. As long as the kids are eating, their tummies are full, and they're playing happily around, dads don't mind occasional junk food at mealtimes. They would instead join the kids and have a good time.

  1. Dads are okay with a bit of mess and dirt around

Mommies mostly expect their kids to play nicely and clean up after they are done. They're not very comfortable when they see their kids getting messy. Dads, on the other hand, are great at messy play. They don't mind the house getting dirty as long as the kids have a good time.

  1. Dads let kids play as they want

Kids love to play. And the play can get rough, messy, and sometimes even risky. With dads, kids often have the liberty to play as they want. Dads are often risk-takers and don't mind their kids taking a little risk while playing. They push the kids to overcome challenges and fears, which helps in better emotional regulation in kids.

Conclusion

The role of both parents is essential in the life of a child. While it's true that no one can replace a mom's love, care, and affection, it is also true that dads play a significant role in a child's life. Though the parenting style of dads is different from that of moms, it is equally important for the kids. No wonder, for kids, dads are more fun than moms because, with dads, it's mostly a 'yes' and rarely a 'no'!
