A speech on Lal Bahadur Shastri's impact on independent India!

Linked table of contents:

Lal Bahadur Shastri was elected as the second Prime Minister of independent India in 1964. He took the oath after the sad demise of our country's first Prime Minister, Jawarharlal Nehru. When the India-Pakistan War started in 1965, he was only a few months into the job. "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan!" was the rallying cry he used to get people together. To start, he created awareness among the people of the need for self-sufficiency.

He made farmers and soldiers into strong and independent pillars of a country that could not be broken. He was also a strong person himself, despite his small size and soft-spoken manner. As a career politician, he wanted to be known for his achievements rather than for speeches and promises.

Early Life

Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on October 2, 1904, in Mughalsarai, which is now in Uttar Pradesh. He was born to Smt. Ramdulari Devi and Sharada Prasad Srivastava. Interestingly, Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, and Lal Bahadur Shastri were both born on October 2.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was a strong critic of the old caste system in our country. So, he decided to drop his last name and stopped using it in public as a sign of rejection of the caste system. The title "Shastri" was given to him in 1925 after he earned his degree at the Kashi Vidyapeeth in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, where he lived. Someone who is a "scholar" or knows a lot about the "Holy Scriptures" is called a "Shastri."

Life As Prime Minister

Shastri became the consensus choice after Jawaharlal Nehru's death came out of the blue. Despite the fact that there were a lot of important people in Congress, many of them fellow revolutionaries of Nehru and Gandhi, Shastri was elected with unanimity.

During his time as a revolutionary leader and subsequently as Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri was a follower of Nehruvian socialism. In addition, he stayed calm in the face of the hardships of war and famine. Lal Bahadur Shastri talked about a lot of important issues in India, like food shortages, unemployment, poverty, and a lot more.

Lal Bahadur Shastri asked experts to come up with a long-term plan to help the country's food shortage. This led to the commencement of the well-known "Green Revolution" in the nation.
